Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The ex-president was sentenced of planning a military coup in last fall and handed more than a 27-year term in jail, but he was staying under house arrest pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" came to light.

This included seeking to disable his electronic bracelet and a invitation to a public vigil that could enable a potential flight.
